+Works Race to Nowhere Screening Sparks +Community Discussion on Hypercompetitiveness

HOUSTON, TX — February 22, 2011  — +Works (pronounced +Works), a new Houston-based, grassroots, non-profit organization created by concerned parents to get ahead of America’s bullying epidemic with positive talk and action, screened the provocative new education documentary, Race to Nowhere, on Thursday, February 10, on the campus of Pershing Middle School in Houston. More than 180 tickets were sold and a vibrant and constructive panel discussion followed. Internationally-known school climate expert Dr. Stuart Twemlow, Pershing Middle School Principal Robin Lowe, +Works Co-Founder Sarah Fisher and Rice University sophomore Daniel Echeverrio participated on the panel. +Works Co-Founder Trish Morille facilitated.

At the request of many event participants, a follow-up meeting is scheduled to facilitate further discussion of the movie and the issues raised. Interested students, parents, educators and mental health professionals are encouraged to attend this “brown bag lunch” meeting on Wednesday, March 2, from 11:30am to 1:30pm at Communications Plus, 2990 Holmes Road, Houston 77051.
